freelance Telecommunications Engineer

at Synergy One in Tampa, Florida

The Telecommunications Engineer will serve as a critical interface between the company and various vendors and contractors to provide voice engineering support, including IP protocols and systems. The candidate will know and use well the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of system engineering to provide architecture, design, and implementation support to the end customer. Will perform work that is varied and that may be somewhat difficult in character.

In this position, the ideal candidate will be responsible for:

  • Supporting the architecting, designing and deploying (installing) of telecommunications peripheral systems such as Signaling System Number 7 (SS7) networks and nodes, IP telemetry networks, SS7/VoIP monitoring tools, digital multiplex circuits and equipment, and management systems
  • Evaluating security risks of these telecommunications systems and developing security strategies based on corporate policy
  • Assisting in the analyses of existing systems and the definition, design, and development of new system requirements
  • Evaluating systematic problems of workflow, organization and planning, and develops appropriate actionable recommendations
  • Collaborating with various groups to identify signaling system security risks and mitigation strategies

  • Voice System Security
  • Field experience with large networks/information systems and/or government telecommunications systems
  • Demonstrated understanding of the procedures and processes applied in the engineering and management of government telecommunications networks/information systems
  • Understanding of VLANs, Spanning Tree, IP submasking, and other IP networking technologies
  • Able to fabricate and install serial data (RS-232, V.35, RS-530), T1 and Ethernet wiring is helpful

Certifications:

  • Net+ certification is a plus
  • Cisco certification (any) is highly desirable
